Chord Quality Recognition

A chord is when three or more notes are played at the same time.  The two simplest kinds of chord are 'Major' and 'Minor'.

Major
A major chord is made up of a root, major 3rd and perfect 5th.


Minor
A major chord is made up of a root, minor 3rd and perfect 5th.



Augmented
An augmented chords outside interval is an augmented 5th and its bottom interval is a major 3rd.

Diminished
An augmented chords outside interval is a diminished 5th and its bottom interval is a minor 3rd.
