Key signatures are placed at the beginning of each staff, between the clef and the meter signature:

 Scales with sharps in the key signature
Scales with flats in the key signature

An easy way to figure out key signatures is to remember the following rules;

Sharps
 Major  Minor
When dealing with sharps remember
that the last sharp is "ti" in Major.
The Key will be determined
by the location of "do."
The process for minor is very similar
except that your last sharp is "re".
